Yesterday, 11 May, the "Energy Communities" conference organised by Mondragon Unibertsitatea in collaboration with the Repsol Foundation and the MONDRAGON Corporation was held in the Polo Garaia auditorium.

This conference is part of Open Room, Fundación Repsol, a digital space for knowledge and dissemination of information on energy transition by recognised experts and institutions from all spheres: public, private, academic and social.

The conference was opened by the Rector of the University of Mondragon, Vicente Atxa, and by the Vice-President of the Repsol Foundation, Antonio Calçada, and was closed by Aitor Arzuaga, Managing Director of Alba Emission Free Energy, Iñigo Ansola, General Manager of the Basque Energy Board (EVE), and the President of the MONDRAGON Corporation, Iñigo Ucín.

The two presentations of the day were given by Ander Goikoetxea Arana, research professor in the area of energy supply at Mondragon University, and Natalia Díaz de Arcaya, head of the area of distributed generation and demand management at the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), who explained the different energy community models as well as the relevant regulations.

This was followed by a round table discussion moderated by the director of the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Carlos García, with the participation of the managing director of Edinor, S.A. Juan L. Diego Casals, the director of business development at Ekiluz Promoción, S.L. Carlos Beracierto, the mayoress of Arrasate-Mondragon, María Ubarretxena, the coordinator of the Gipuzkoa Red Cross, Cristina Castillo and the director of the specialist business network at Laboral Kutxa, Iñaki Peña.
