As you may know, LEINNers travel to different destinations each year through the Learning Journeys. During their third year in LEINN, we travel to Seoul, a city where the Cooperative HBM (Happy Bridge Mondragon) leads the MTA Seoul lab where LEINN Seoul, LEINN International and team companies from different laboratories share time and space.

With the following words of the Team Coach Naloh Sarang Heo (Team Coach in LEINN Seoul) you will learn more about the role of Team Coaches in MTA Community and understand better the challenges and opportunities that South Korea offers as a destination. Let’s go!

- What does it mean for you to be a team coach?

It’s the way of living. Team coaches serve teams so that they can stand firm as a team company.  Teams that I coach, they make me live as a leading example and make me serve the team. That is, they make me awake. My mindset of serving others has grown up everyday thanks to the team that I’m coaching,

- How do you think being a Team Coach differs from being a teacher?

The most different thing is the point of view of how to see learners. It means there's a difference regarding how to guide learners. Teachers see learners as students, so teachers give an answer or guide the way of finding the answer to fill them out with some knowledge. However, team coaches see learners as TEAM-entrepreneurs, so we ask a question. We support not only individuals but also teams so that they can co-create their own ways. To do so, team coaches believe in the power of dialogue, because only one answer doesn’t exist in this rapidly changing world.

- How has the TEAMINN Mastery Program empowered you in this process?

Team coaches are coaching TEAMs, so we are being with a TEAM, too. TEAMINN has helped me understand how fun and difficult it is to be a team. Furthermore, we can mirror each others’ experience of team-coaching. It helps me expand my eyes of view and mind.

- How do you rely on the Team Coaches Team and what does it bring to the LEINN model?

Whenever I have some challenges on team coaching, I open them to the team coach and ask for some wisdom. Team coaching scenes are always an unexpected situation, so sometimes team coaches (literally and metaphorically) walk into the way of the challenges that the team face with LEINNers together. It needs some energy to give it to LEINNers. I recharge the energy with my team coaches team, so I can let my energy flow into LEINNers.

Regarding the model, LEINNers face the challenges that the team coach team has solved or experienced. So I can understand what is happening in the team and what they need because I previously faced similar challenges with my team coaches team. For example, I could support the team to hold trust until the end of dialogue and make them remind the purpose of the team's dialogue when they have extremely different opinions within a team. The reason why I could support the team was that team coaches team had faced similar challenges and we have never give up trusting each other.

- How have you experienced the Learning Journey and what role does it play in the LEINN experience?

The role of Learning Journey in LEINN is the key process of hatching out.

For LEINNers from LEINN Seoul, 2nd and 3rd year teams had Learning Journey in Costa Rica, and 1st year team company in Spain and Germany last January and February. I have been to Costa Rica. In this Learning Journey, LEINNers tried a lot of new experiments despite unfamiliar environments. The language, cultures, etc. everything is totally different from Korean ones, but LEINNers took courage and challenged boldly. At the final, they created social and economical impact not only within a team but also into the local community.  The most meaningful impact is that they discovered themselves. They came to unchain and realize how to be myself while they’re trying in the unfamiliar environment.

Learning Journey is also the opportunity to feel the power of glocal community within the MTA world. LEINNers could learn how to co-create with a team by mirroring with Spanish teams.

- What is your vision for the MTA Seoul Lab? Where is it going?

Firstly, we are visioning for 2 team companies for upcoming new generation. Seoul teams has been just one team per year until now. However, we sincerely came to realize the effect of mirroring of two teams per year. Secondly, we are visioning to measure impact of how  teampreneurship in LEINN definitely needs in Korea. We are proving how teampreneurship works in this competitive and individualistic Korean society. More and more innovative educators in schools are having interest in MTA methodology. They are becoming our partners. So are organizations and foundations in social sector, either. Ashoka Korea is one of them. Seoul Lab is heading for a leading Innovative and healthy way of learning with the partners.

Would you like to add something else?

I believe every human being is born to be a teampreneur. We need to collaborate and live together.

Korea had a strong community-ship before the 70s, however we had been losing it after the excessively rapid economic growth.

MTA Seoul Lab and LEINN Seoul will continue to recover the power of community in this era until the day when community revives.

Soon we will have more news about everything that is happening in MTA Seoul in the different channels like the MTA LinkedIn. For now, here are some pictures.

Aurrera, beti aurrera!
