LABORAL Kutxa Becomes the Main Sponsor of the Investment Club
The Investment Club operates like an investment fund, where each member contributes a small amount to buy shares in the fund, and decisions on capital allocation are made collectively.
The club currently has a fund capital of €12,000 and three open investment positions.
The Investment Club, launched two years ago by Mondragon Unibertsitatea to train students in controlled, socially responsible investing, has solidified its operations in its second year. This year, 192 students—along with faculty and researchers—have participated in the club. Additionally, the club has secured a sponsorship agreement with LABORAL Kutxa, which joins the Mondragon Business Faculty and the university itself as a key sponsor.
This partnership ensures greater capital for club members to invest in external training, operational expenses, and new ventures aligned with social responsibility and sustainability. It also guarantees the involvement of LABORAL Kutxa’s expert professionals in the club’s educational activities.
The collaboration agreement between LABORAL Kutxa, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and the Investment Club was signed today, Tuesday, at Bilbao AS Fabrik. The signatories included Lander Beloki, Dean of the Mondragon Business Faculty; Nuria Agirre, Director of People and Media at LABORAL Kutxa; and Ander Iparraguirre, President of the Investment Club. With this agreement, LABORAL Kutxa becomes the club’s main sponsor.
A Responsible Investment Fund
The Investment Club operates simply: each member contributes a small capital (between €50 and €100), and with these funds—along with contributions from sponsoring companies—the club invests in various positions. In practice, it functions like an investment fund. All members contribute capital to purchase shares, and decisions on fund allocation are made collectively. The club currently manages a fund capital of €12,000 (prior to the LABORAL Kutxa sponsorship).
Education as a Key Pillar
A core component of the club is education. Members receive regular training on financial market instruments and concepts, led by faculty and researchers from Mondragon’s Economics and Finance department. The club also hosts expert lectures and receives external advisory support.
This year, the club has featured talks by:
- Aitor García Santamaría, General Director of Caja Laboral Gestión SA
- Unai Ansejo, Founder of Indexa Capital
- Iñigo Beristain, CFO at Pi Director AV
- Adrián García, Quant Analyst at Bolsas y Mercados Españoles
Additionally, two upcoming lectures will be given by experts from LABORAL Kutxa’s Treasury and Markets Division.
Current Status and Ethical Commitment
The club now has 192 members and three open investments in Alphabet, Canadian Solar, and gold (Oro). While open to all types of investments, its bylaws emphasize a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. The goal is to align investment decisions with ethical values and actively contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
