Over the last 8 weeks, the first-year students of the Degree in Business Data Analytics from Mondragon Unibertsitatea have worked on the challenge presented by Mikel Goienetxe (General Director) and Iñigo Laiseka (Head of Business Development and Transformation) of Eroski Viajes. The challenge aimed to propose solutions to improve the intelligence of Eroski Viajes clients in order to automatically propose travel proposals to its clients.

To do this, students have had to work throughout these weeks analyzing the anonymized data of customers to know their purchasing behavior, perform a segmentation of customers with similar behaviors and create a recommendation system that offers proposals for suitable travel destinations to each of the users.

The different teams have had the support of the teachers, who act as project managers, and those responsible for Viajes Eroski to be able to resolve the doubts that arose as they progressed in solving the challenge. Throughout the weeks, the teams have had regular meetings with their respective project managers to monitor the project and resolve any doubts that arose. At the same time, in the different subjects of the degree they were acquiring the necessary knowledge that allowed them to advance in the project. In addition, it should be mentioned that the students have used the Scrum methodology to properly manage their projects and be able to reach the delivery date and presentation to the client.

To the difficulty of the challenge itself must be added that of confinement due to COVID-19. Both the monitoring of projects by the "project managers" and the actual teaching of the subject, as well as teamwork has been carried out entirely online. This situation has demonstrated the adaptability of all of us, the teachers, the client, but, above all, the students so as not to lose the necessary tension to respond to the challenge.
