The deadline to participate in the 15th annual Huhezinema Basque Short Film Festival is February 18, 2022. The festival, which will be held from March 30 to April 1, will have music as its main theme. As every year, the screenings will take place at the Arkupe Culture Center in Aretxabaleta.

According to the organizers, “as this year is the 15th anniversary, we wanted to make the festival special and decided to focus on music because we like music and also because the influence that the recent pandemic has had on culture has been remarkable, especially in the world of music. Following this theme, in addition to using musical elements in the graphic designs, there will be prizes for the best use of sound, as well as for the best music video. Students and/or professionals from Mondragon University may participate in the music video section, and there will be three prizes: €300 for first place, €200 for second, and €100 for third.”

Again this year, the festival will award numerous prizes:

  • Huhezinema Award: €800 for the best film in Basque. The prize will be awarded by the official jury.
  • Vertigo Prize: €400. The prize will be awarded by a jury made up of students from Mondragon University. The film must have been produced and distributed without public subsidy.
  • Audience Award: €300
  • Mundukide Prize: €700. The prize will go to the best short film with a theme related to Human Rights and Social Justice out of all the films presented in the three sections. The prize will be awarded by the official jury together with a representative from Mundukide.
  • Best Sound: €300. The prize will be awarded by the official jury to the short film with the best editing, recording and sound design.
The Huhezinema Festival is organized by 4th-year students in the Audiovisual Communication degree program at Mondragon University.
