The Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies Society held the SISTEDES 2019 conference in Cáceres, on 4 September. Aitor Arrieta, professor and researcher at the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon, received the award for the best doctoral thesis in the context of SISTEDES for his work entitled “Simulation-Based Testing of Highly Configurable Cyber-Physical Systems: Automation, Optimisation and Debugging”. The thesis was carried out at Mondragon Unibertsitatea and was directed by Goiuria Sagardui and Leire Etxeberria.

Following the delivery of the honours, Aitor gave a talk in which he narrated his journey during the start of his career as a researcher, including the difficulties he had to overcome and the lessons he learnt along the way, as well as the help he received from other members of the research community.
