Yesterday, July 5, the first year of the Communication Campus opened. Seven young people have registered for this initiative, which was created by the Mondragon University’s Degree program in Audiovisual Communication in collaboration with the Goiena Communication Group. Yesterday, Monday, the participants took their first steps as photojournalists.

“The purpose of the Campus is to bring young people into the world of communication in a critical, practical and fun way. On the first day, we focused on photojournalism, under the instruction of Xabier Urzelai. For the next few days, we will be working with Ainhoa Vitoria and Aiora Mujika. The participants will work on image, sound, video creation and the various profiles of the communicator in order to become familiar with the wide world of communication,” said Mondragon University coordinator Zuriñe Maguregi.

For his part, Goiena communicator Xabier Urzelai emphasizes that an interesting team of communicators joined forces: “First thing in the morning, we took some time to get to know each other; then we dived into the world of photojournalism. The young people chose an image that has become an icon, the one they liked best, and we asked them to delve into the story behind each photograph. In our meeting, we also became acquainted with the work of renowned photojournalists. But we mustn’t forget that it’s the summer, so yes, the students came to learn, but they especially came to have fun.”

The professional touch

Educators from Mondragon University and professionals from Goiena participate in the Communication Campus. Additionally, professional workshops will be taught by experts such as YouTuber Aiora Mujika and Gaztea Irratia communicator and announcer Ainhoa Vitoria.

Farewell party on Friday

Until Friday the 9th, the participants will delve into the different areas of communication, and on Friday the Campus will say goodbye with a party and the presentation of the students’ work. In the words of the organizers, “after the Campus experience, perhaps some of our young students will be moved to enter the world of communication in the future as professionals.”
