Advanced course on Friction and Wear in Metal Forming
In metal forming, relative motion of the tool and workpiece during production makes friction, lubrication and wear phenomena (tribology) of the utmost importance. On that account, for optimum process design, improving formability and enhancing tool life, a better understanding of tribology and accurate predictions of friction/wear in forming processes are necessary. In this workshop, different aspects of tribology in cold/hot metal forming from fundamental to advanced modeling of friction and wear will be discussed.
The workshop program is the following one:
1st day, Monday 23 March

9:10 – 9:45 - Introduction to tribology in metal forming
9:45 – 10:45 - Introduction to metal plasticity I
10:45 -11:15 - Coffee break
11:15 – 12:00 - Introduction to metal plasticity II
12:00 - 12:30 - Existing friction and wear models in metal forming
12:30 – 13:30 - Lunch
13:30 – 14:15 - Guest Lecture: Friction & Wear Mechanisms in Hot Stamping
14:15 – 15:00 - Evolution of surface roughness during deformation
15:00 – 16:00 - Transfer by bus to Mondragon
16:00 – 17:30 - Lab tour Mondragon campus
18:00 – 20:30 - Drinks and Dinner
20:30 – 21:30 - Transfer by bus to Bilbao
2nd day, Tuesday 24 March
8:30- 9:15 - Lubrication and its interaction with metal surfaces
9:15 – 10:00 - Micro-scale modelling of ploughing

10:30 – 11:45 - Advanced friction and wear models in sheet metal forming
11:45 – 12:30 - Guest Lecture: Application of advanced friction model in forming
12:30 – 14:00 - Lunch
