Science, technology and a festive atmosphere were the main attractions on Saturday at the seventh edition of the FLL Euskadi-MONDRAGON tournament. This year, for the first time, the event was held at two venues: the usual Iturripe campus in Arrasate and the Bilbao As Fabrik campus of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in Bilbao. Between the two venues, almost 500 young people (67 teams), hundreds of volunteers and family members who filled the stands enjoyed an unforgettable morning, combining teamwork and robotics. Excitement, music (with DJ Xaibor and the Mauxitxa brass band) and mutual support were the main ingredients of this final, held under the sustainability commitment of the Erronka Garbia label.
In this year's edition, participating young people explored the secrets of the subsoil thanks to the UNEARTHED challenge. Immersing themselves in the world of archaeology, more than 3,400 students from 68 schools in the Basque Autonomous Community developed innovative projects to understand our past and build a better future. After months of work, the students clearly demonstrated their ability to provide creative solutions to complex problems, always based on FIRST values (solidarity, critical thinking and inclusion).
The aim of awakening scientific and technological vocations (STEAM) among young people is fully in line with the philosophy of the MONDRAGON cooperatives. By promoting this educational project, students are given the opportunity to experience science up close. As a result, this final organised by Innobasque, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and MONDRAGON has consolidated a strong alliance; the initiative has received the support of cooperatives and institutions such as Ausolan, Batz, Cikautxo, Danobatgroup, Erreka, Fagor Taldea, Ikerlan, Krean, Laboral Kutxa, Lana, LKS Next, Lortek, Maier, Ondoan, Orbik, Ulma Taldea and the Ingeniera Soy association, as well as the collaboration of the Basque Government, the Provincial Councils of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, and the Arrasate Town Council.
Ultimately, the purpose of FLL Euskadi is to learn, create and enjoy the process. Promoting healthy competition, all teams in the Explore category (6-9 years old) received a medal recognising their efforts, while in the Challenge category (10-16 years old), the students' excellent work was recognised with various awards:
Classified prizes for the Spanish final (prizes for the winners):
