The specialist certification in Innovation in Childhood Education aims to impact the training of professionals in Childhood Education. In response to needs that may arise in the modern teaching profession and in innovation processes, the certification seeks to enhance the professional profile of Childhood Education professionals and to empower the teacher by influencing the balance of the personal and professional aspects of the profession.

With these goals in mind, the certification will focus on three areas:

  1. Teacher awareness in relationships. The teacher himself or herself is the most important tool in the profession. In this profession whose foundation is built on relationships, it is a primary goal for the teacher to be as self-aware as possible, because the relationships he or she forms with the children, with families, with coworkers, and with other agents in the educational community will determine the development and well-being of the child as well as the evolution of the school project. The instructors who participate in this specialist certification will be immersed in the process of becoming aware, beginning with their own bodies and integrating sensation, emotion, thought, and behavior. The certification seeks to have a positive impact on relationships formed with others in a self-aware and self-regulating way stemming from the functions specific to the body. After all, each individual’s “innovation” is based on a process of innovation.
  2. Teacher innovation through the integration of theories. Many local schools are immersed in innovation processes and there are changes in a number of areas: the organization of space and time, materials, the role of the teacher, evaluation, etc. Innovations tend to be based on many different theories, but often there is no integration of those theories. Therefore, in this specialist certification program, we seek to provide integration of theories when innovations are carried out, by delving into the meanings of different points of view in order to be able to adapt them to a given situation. For this purpose, we will become familiar with and analyze a number of experiences in which theory is put into practice.
  3. Teacher innovation in a group. Innovation in education is based on collaboration. The ability to create a common project is essential and likewise, the cohesion of the teacher group is key. The relationships among teachers and the teachers’ level of involvement and commitment will determine the execution and duration of the innovation process. Therefore, the participants in this specialist certification program will go through a process that leads to cohesion in an experiential way, taking into consideration group work, effective communication, and the well-being of all members of the group.

Personal transformation and meaningful reflection on practices will form the foundation of our work, and from this foundation we will cultivate the competencies needed for the development of innovation processes in Childhood Education.
