Mondragon Unibertsitatea is the Spanish coordinator of the European project TESTOMAT, a project that features the collaboration of the San Sebastian-based company Alerion. The main objective of the project is to provide software research teams with the necessary instruments to develop different software programs in a quick and efficient manner without sacrificing quality, and to achieve this, it is essential to automate tests. The project focuses on the simulation-based testing phase, in which Alerion has invested an average of 58 minutes per simulation so far. The TESTOMAT project aims to streamline this phase by shifting from manual to automated working mode, and the software developed at the Higher Polytechnic School in collaboration with Alerion has led to an optimisation of 25% in terms of time spent on simulations.

Evidence on concrete scenarios

The group of researchers from the Higher Polytechnic School has relied on the parameters proposed by Alerion engineers to select the most critical test scenarios. Thanks to the adaptability and possibilities of combining these parameters, millions of tests can be performed, but since it is not possible to check all of them, it is considered more efficient to reduce the number of tests to be carried out and adapt it to real needs, covering the broadest possible spectrum. After the testing phase is complete, the evaluation mechanism developed helps to confirm or deny the correctness of the test performed. Therefore, the main contribution of the TESTOMAT project is that it makes it possible to check software tests automatically.
