Several 4th year students studying for engineering degrees at Mondragon Unibertsitatea have been working on Technological Entrepreneurship ideas over the past few months. In total they have worked on 12 business ideas. This initiative represents a pilot test promoted by the entrepreneurship team from the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and it has received collaboration from organisations such as the Regional Government of Gipuzkoa, MTA, Garaia Technology Park, Saiolan, Mondragon Corporation and KIMUBERRI.

The aim of this collaborative project has been to promote an ecosystem of entrepreneurship between students so that they can acquire entrepreneurial skills and be capable of kick-starting their possible business ideas.

The Technological Entrepreneurship ideas developed by the students were presented on 29 January at the Garaia Technology Park, where proposals could be seen focusing on areas such as tourism, the circular economy, hairdressers, beer, cancer, etc. For correct development of the ideas, students received support from experts in entrepreneurship from Mondragon Unibertsitatea, as well as advice from external professionals who took part voluntarily in this pilot test.

After the presentations, prizes were awarded for various projects.

  • Prize for the best project: DUALIA TO CHINA (Eguzkiñe del Valle, Endika Zearra and Maider Gamboa). They received a prize of €300 for their work on the innovative solution that facilitates translation from Chinese to Spanish
  • Prize for the best Pitch: HAIR AND HOME(Kike Ziaurriz and Sara Rekalde). This project, the prize for which was €150, proposes the possibility of offering and customising home hairdresssing services.

The organising entities, and the participating students, gave a positive appraisal of the experience and a new edition is a distinct possibility for next year. Therefore, 3rd year students can start to think up technological business ideas because they will soon have the opportunity to work on them.
