The awards for the best end-of-course projects developed in Basque were delivered on the premises of MONDRAGON Corporation in Arrasate. Two Mondragon Unibertsitatea projects were awarded, both from the field of engineering.

The winner of the first prize was Markel Azkue Etxeandia, for his study developed in Ikerlan during the last 8 months of the Degree in Energy Engineering. The end-of-course project was entitled “Analysis of hybrid energy storage systems for industrial applications” and was awarded of €1500.

The winner of the second prize was Nagore Etxebarria Altuna, student of the degree in Mechanical Engineering. The project carried out for FAGOR Arrasate is entitled “Design of a feeding system for a press including a charging format and the power line”. In this case, the prize was €500.

These awards were created at the initiative of the Basque Language Committee of MONDRAGON Corporation eight years ago in order to ensure that End-of-Course Projects carried out by the students of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in their access to the professional world are developed in Basque.

In total, in Mondragon Unibertsitatea, 582 projects have been carried out in the School of Business Studies, the Higher Polytechnic School and the School of Humanities and Education Sciences, 187 of which have been developed in Basque, that is, 32%. A total of 120 have been carried out in the MONDRAGON cooperatives and, among those that have been developed in Basque, 22, have participated in the contest. All projects presented had a high technical level and the outstanding projects have been the best written in Basque.

Winners

First prize

Markel Azkue Etxeandia (Faculty of Engineering)

Project title

Analysis of hybrid energy storage systems for industrial applications.

Abstract

The recent increase in the use of electromobility and renewable energy has led to the emergence of new applications with high demand for power and energy. Storage systems used today have complications to meet this demand. This project explains the design and development of a semi-active HESS consisting of an EDLC bank and a battery and show the advantages of combining these two systems.

Second prize

Nagore Etxebarria Altuna (Faculty of Engineering)

Project title

Design of a feeding system for a press that includes a format loader and the feeding line.

Abstract

The project includes the design guidelines for mixed press feeding systems that house the feeding line and the format loader. The purpose of this guide is to define and establish a solution to the interconnections generated in the layout for all the different combinations of the 12 variables established by the client and that affect the feeding.
