Buildings 10 and 11 of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa, both located in Arrasate, have renewed their EKOSCAN certificate, an environmental standard promoted by IHOBE (Basque Government Public Society for Environmental Management). The audit, renewed in December 2020, recognised the centre's work in the environmental area, especially its efforts to promote projects that foster the circular economy and the mitigation of climate change. EKOSCAN certification recognises the efforts of different organisations in adopting a working method to manage the improvement of environmental performance in a simplified way. In this way, it aims to influence the rapid achievement of results in the reduction of waste generation, discharges, emissions and the optimisation in the use of resources. Focusing on the short term, the EKOSCAN standard systematises the achievement of environmental improvement results on an annual basis and ensures compliance with applicable environmental legislation within 3 years of certification.

A double recognition

Buildings 10 and 11 of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa obtained the first EKOSCAN certification in 2012, and have renewed it annually. In the last certification review, December 2020, the audit staff made the following positive assessments:

  • Building 10: 100% reduction in non-eco-label toilet paper and 2.18% reduction in the total KW of fluorescent lights installed.
  • Building 11: 100% reduction in non-eco-label toilet paper and 28.83% reduction in electricity consumption per person.

At a global level, the audit carried out by AENOR recognised, among other things, the role of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa in the work undertaken by the Environmental Improvement Group and the inclusion of active commitments to the environment in its 2020-2021 to 2023-2024 Strategic Plan. In line with this evaluation, the faculty's Environmental work team has set itself the next milestone of obtaining ISO 14001 certification in building 11, a goal that is expected to be achieved in the 2021-2022 academic year.
