Abstract:

The gamma- TiAl alloys are novel intermetallics suited for high temperature applications due to their unique material properties. However, due to their high brittleness, hardness and unpredictable tool life during machining limits their series production.

Thus to solve this, this thesis work entails to develop a conduct an experimental sensitivity analysis of Gamma -TiAl alloys in terms of composition, microstructure, milling tools, lubrication on the cutting forces, tool wear and surface integrity analysis (Surface roughness, sub-surface microstructure alterations and microhardness) thereby delivering an optimized milling chart. A tribological characterization of alloys led to the conclusion that microstructure of the gamma – TiAl alloys is immune to the tribological aspects of friction, amount of workpiece adhesion, and heat partitioning.
