Pau Pavón, founder of Examfy and entrepreneur/student of LEINN (Official Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation) of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in the laboratory that the entrepreneurship network Mondragon Team Academy has in Barcelona (promoted by its partner TeamLabs), has been awarded in the EdTech category -to the best education startup- of the prestigious European competition Wise 20 Under 20, which recognizes the most promising entrepreneurs between 16 and 19 years old from all over Europe.

Pau Pavón, a 19-year-old entrepreneur, is developing a technology that uses optical character recognition and artificial intelligence to help teachers correct exams. Once each exam has been scanned with the cell phone, Examfy analyzes and sorts them by name and grade, and allows them to publish notes or share them with students or their parents. The project has its germ in the mandatory quarantine established during the pandemic, when, according to its creator, "the lack of technological development in the education sector was evident". Faced with this situation, they began development to provide solutions to a real need.

At the moment, the project is in the validation phase and they are in contact with schools in Catalonia, Madrid and Castilla y León, with the aim of carrying out the first tests at the end of this school year and launching a pilot test for the beginning of the school year in September. In addition, they are actively looking for innovative centers that want to join these tests to perfect the technology.

Mondragon Unibertsitatea has become a benchmark in the area of entrepreneurship and this recognition confirms it. One of its hallmarks in entrepreneurial education is the Official Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation (LEINN), whose methodology is based on learning by creating real companies in teams while traveling the world. Currently, after 13 years since the LEINN degree began, Mondragon Unibertsitatea has an international community of more than 3,000 entrepreneurs, with more than 120 companies created in LEINN teams and laboratories in Irun, Oñati, Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Berlin (Germany), Puebla (Mexico), Seoul (South Korea) and Shanghai (China).

The competition rewards Europe's most talented young founders between the ages of 16 and 19, including Pau Pavón in the 2022 edition. The jury in charge of choosing this group of entrepreneurs is made up of a panel of top-level investors and business experts, including the co-founder of Wise, Taavet Hinrikus; the president of Estonia (2016-2021), Kersti Kaljulaid; or Nadia Costanzo, Head of Banking for MEA and Latam at Wise, among others.

Launching a company and expanding it is a big challenge. Prizes for all these young entrepreneurs include £1 million commission-free transfers with Wise Enterprises, mentoring sessions with leading entrepreneurs, investors and experts, as well as networking opportunities with other finalists and judges.

The finalists of this year's 20 Under 20 competition, from 8 European countries, have presented the judges with a wide range of innovative solutions that reflect the concerns and interests of this generation. One of the most relevant sectors this year is physical and mental well-being, with companies dedicated to health monitoring, care for the elderly, care for patients with eating disorders and the sports industry in general. The development of solutions for a sustainable future is another growing trend, with initiatives such as a marketplace for sustainable and second-hand clothing brands or the manufacture of wooden toys, as well as the reuse of gas lamps for the production of watches.
