On November 19 in Barcelona, Mondragon University and TeamLabs presented the second year of the Specialist Diploma in New Roles for Learning in Education (ROL). The program, which was designed by both entities, aims to help management teams and teachers in education centers both to lead and to address processes of change in the organization and teaching strategies that society is demanding.

The event, which was hosted by Paloma Moruno, TeamLabs representative of the ROL program, was attended by Raquel Fernández, Trams Foundation Head of International Projects; Modest Jou, CEO of Escoles Fedac; and María Casanova and Oscar de Paula, members of the first graduating class of the diploma program. It should be noted that 26 representatives from Escoles Fedac participated in the first year of this project.

Paloma Moruno explained the characteristics of the training program and stressed the importance of the involvement of management teams in transformation processes and in educational innovation: “For educational innovation to be a reality both in the classroom and in an education center, a strategic vision and clear leadership from school management are necessary.” When reviewing the main characteristics of the program, she stressed the importance of mentoring by a tutor throughout the entire training process, thus ensuring that the project carried out in each education center truly responds to the circumstances and needs of the institution.

For their part, the representatives from Escoles Fedac underlined the transformative experience of participating in the first year of the ROL program. María Casanova stated that “the experience was a change of view, not only for me, but also for the community in which I participate, opening doors to new possibilities for collaborative construction for the development of people and the environment.” Oscar de Paula added that “they provided us with tools and resources to be able to detect, deal with and enhance learning situations in our setting, working on them with a pedagogical approach through a variety of methodologies.”

In addition, as part of the presentation, the participants discussed questions such as the following: is innovation focused on people the best way to respond to the challenges of 21st-century education? Is it realistic to propose collaborative and inclusive innovation? What are we talking about when we talk about community? What tools would we have to acquire to bring about these types of changes and innovations? Do we have the necessary tools to implement those changes?

The Specialist Diploma in New Roles for Learning in Education (ROL) lasts eight months, from January 10 to July 1 (30 ECTS). It is a hybrid course that combines online training with in-person workshops in Barcelona.
