On February 24, the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University presented its publication Guide for the promotion of student talent: different options for high school, vocational training and the university (original title in Basque: Ikasleen talentua sustatzeko gida: batxilergorako, Lanbide heziketarako eta unibersitaterako hainbat aukera). All of the researchers who participated in the Eragin project took part in the event, which took place on the Eskoriatza campus. The instructors took advantage of the event to present, in addition to the guide, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and various webinars on talent, aimed particularly at high school, vocational training and university teaching staff.

The proponents of the Eragin project believe that the development of talent is one of the primary challenges of educational institutions. Furthermore, they declare that research to date has made it clear that, for the development of skills associated with talent, it is key to provide enriching learning contexts. With this premise as a basis, the guide presented today proposes teaching strategies for creating appropriate educational contexts to foster student talent, strategies such as the use of Design Thinking or the development of socio-community projects that promote student interaction with companies and organizations in the area.

The researchers placed special emphasis on creating a guide that is flexible and easy to use; thus, the book is divided into two parts. To begin with, they define what talent is and what factors it consists of: the cooperative, creative, entrepreneurial, tenacious, flexible, critical-analytical aspects as well as the factor of emotional regulation.

Subsequently, in a very practical way and in the form of thematic sheets, the authors suggest ways to promote these aspects of talent in educational contexts. At this point, the authors of the book emphasize that the options contained in the guide are merely opinions, and not inevitable choices. With each option for promoting talent, they provide detailed information and, in passing, suggest external resources for in-depth study so that any interested person can obtain additional information. This second section was carried out taking into account the contributions of various researchers and different significant international practices in the field of talent promotion.

The guide is intended primarily for the high school, vocational training and university levels. However, for the proposals contained in the guide to be applied correctly, the authors consider it essential that it be adapted to the appropriate educational context.

The book was produced by Mondragon University researchers Iñaki Larrea, Paula Álvarez-Huerta, Ana Carpintero, Oxel Azkarate-Iturbe, José Ramón Vitoria and Beñat Flores, together with University of the Basque Country researcher Alexander Muela. The Eragin project was supported in part by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

MOOC ON TALENT

In addition to the guide, Eragin project researchers took advantage of the event to present not only the MOOC, "Promotion of student talent," that they will offer from March 1 to April 16, but also their series of webinars on the topic.

The course “Promotion of student talent” aims to provide the teaching staff with tools that will help them to design favorable contexts for the development of student talent. The MOOC will work on strategies to enhance the dimensions of talent. This course and the guide published today are aimed at high school, vocational training and university instructors.

Parties interested in participating in the course should please contact us at eragin@mondragon.edu.
