Audiovisual Communication student Xavier Vallina won the prize for best fictional work by Mondragon University students for “Ilunabarrean esan.” The prize for best documentary went to student Khuruts Begoña Urrutia for “Deia.”

The awards ceremony for the 14th annual Huhezinema Short Film Festival was held on March 17 at the Arkupe Cultural Center in Aretxabaleta. The grand prize was awarded to the film Gorria by Maddi Barber. The jury also selected works by Mondragon University students Xabier Vallina for Ilunabarrean esan and Khuruts Begoña Urrutia for Deia, winners of the prizes for best short fiction film and best short documentary, respectively.

  • Huhezinema Prize: Gorria, by Maddi Barber.
  • Best comedy: Datsegit, by Aitor Arruti.
  • Vertigo Prize: Maite, by Xabier Larrazabal.
  • Mundukide Prize for Human Rights and Social Justice: Before I Die, by Iker Esteibarlanda.
  • Audience Award: Dar-dar, by Paul Urkijo.

Mondragon University student awards:

  • Best fiction film: Ilunabarrean esan, by Xabier Vallina.
  • Special mention: 12 minutu (Ane Cuesta).
  • Best documentary: Deia (Naia Aizpurua Garro)
  • Best photography: Deia (Naia Aizpurua Garro).
  • Audience Award: Ilunean argia (Maria Garmendia).

A total of 21 short films were selected for competition in 2021. The official panel of judges consisted of Erika Olaizola, Arantza Santesteban, Aizpea Goenaga and Irati Crespo.

The Huhezinema film festival is organized by 4th-year Audiovisual Communication students at Mondragon University.
