Lopez de Mantaras, a computer scientist, physicist and research professor of the CSIC, former student of the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragón Unibertsitatea, and current director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC), has been awarded the National Research Award 2018.

More specifically, the award granted was the “Julio Rey Pastor” National Award in Mathematics and Information and Communication Technologies “for his pioneering research in a wide range of areas of Artificial Intelligence, in particular the recognition of patterns and reasoning based on cases, leading to innovative applications in design, diagnosis and music, and for his extensive international leadership and service to the community in Artificial Intelligence”.

The National Research Awards aim to distinguish the merit of Spanish researchers who are performing outstanding work in scientific fields of international relevance.
