The Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea organises the international congress RAID2020 (International Symposium on Research in Attacks, Intrusions and Defences) on 14, 15 and 16 October. The 23rd International Symposium on Research in Attacks, Intrusions and Defences serves as a meeting point for researchers, professionals and administrations as leading organisations such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and academic research groups present the results of their related work, discoveries and experiments in computer attacks, their detection, and new defence techniques. The meeting was scheduled to be held at the Miramar Palace in Donostia, but for health reasons, it has been moved to the virtual format.

The participants of the congress will present to discuss and debate the results of the measurement works carried out on a large scale, as well as of the research that offers public access to new tools and data sets. Specific topics to be addressed at RAID2020 will include computer, network, and cloud computing security; mobile security; security and privacy on the Web; cybercrime and black economies; and topics related to the security of the IoT, among others.

Several committees have participated in the organisation of the congress, with representatives of internationally recognised organisations in the field of cybersecurity: companies such as Google, Facebook and Norton and research centres such as CISPA and the Chinese Academy of Science, as well as the universities of Princeton, California, Arizona, Munich, Delft and Mondragon Unibertsitatea, among others.

A bet on cybersecurity

The Data Analysis and Cybersecurity research group of Mondragon Unibertsitatea has been responsible for the organisation of the 2020 congress – a research group that in recent years has been strengthened and has managed to participate and lead relevant European research projects. Mondragon Unibertsitatea also maintains its commitment to cybersecurity training, as it currently offers a Master’s Degree in Data Analysis, Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing and it´s own Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity aimed at professionals.

In recent years, both the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa have made a clear commitment to cybersecurity and, as a consequence, two leading cybersecurity centres have been created – the Basque CyberSecurity Centre promoted by the SPRI Group and ZIUR, the Centre for f Industrial Cybersecurity of Gipuzkoa, promoted by the Provincial Council, aiming to strengthen and develop the cybersecurity capacities of local industrial companies and contribute to their competitiveness. Both organisations have participated as collaborators in the organisation of this international congress, which will give international visibility to professionals in cybersecurity in the Basque Country, as well as to the efforts made by public institutions in this field.
