The 25 best projects of the nine engineering degrees of the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea have been exhibited today on the Orona Ideo campus to compete in the fourth edition of the PBLday.

The exhibition of the 25 best projects was the main protagonist of the conference, and the students were involved in convincing the jury of the good work done. To do this, each group has had the support of a model, a poster, and a video. The communicative skills, the learning process followed and the quality of the proposed solution were some of the factors evaluated by the jury.

In the first phase of the contest, a multidisciplinary group of professors of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa was in charge of visiting all booths and selecting the 4 best projects.  Following that, a jury composed of representatives of 5 companies and collaborating entities (Orona, Ikerlan, Innobasque, Gureak, and Beterri) selected the winning project: “Solución para el cultivo celular en la membrana de la cornea” (2nd year project of the Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering). The €1,000 prize was awarded by Iñigo Marquet, on behalf of Orona Fundazioa.

The attending 300 Baccalaureate students and professional training centres were also able to vote for their favourite project, which was awarded a dinner for the participants.  In this case, the winner was the project “VATN a new brand of whisky”, which proposed an innovative design of the whisky bottle developed by students of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering

The 800 visitors to the event were able to see other projects such as a rail-guided robot, a solution for collecting plastics from the sea, a snowboard, a bamboo electric bicycle, an audio amplifier, a rehabilitation clinic, an emulation of a mini-hydraulic power plant, a cableway transport system for the transfer of patients with reduced mobility, an escape room simulator, an ultrasonic radar, an automatic ball picker, etc.

Parallel to the exhibition, the auditorium hosted a number of open talks in which leading people such as Jon Salsamendi (former rower and coach), Idoia Iceta (CEO of NEM Solutions) and the bertso singer and writer Andoni Egaña spoke about communication skills, leadership, teamwork, and effort.

Once again, the PBLday session was a success and served as a major showcase of the practical and innovative educational model offered at Mondragon Unibertsitatea.
