Dual training

What is dual training?

Dual education is understood as an educational practice that involves alternating between training periods in the educational centre and an enterprise or organisation.

Mondragon University's track record

Mondragon University’s track record, which has become known as dual education, dates back to 1966, with the creation of ALECOP S.Coop. from the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon University, a cooperative made up primarily of students belonging to centres which at the present time make up Mondragon University. The 50 years of experience of what in ALECOP is called work-study alternation has enabled Mondragon University to develop a pioneering model of education in the Basque Country and in Spain, emulated in other centres and areas of the Basque Country.

The Strategic Plan of Mondragon University 2017-2020 has identified the Strategic Challenge of “Building an innovative, educational, differential and quality experience”. In the framework of this challenge, the 2016-2017 course at Mondragon University saw the start of the strategic project “Framework of the dual university education at Mondragon University” which aims to establish the bases for strengthening, amplifying and extending dual university education to other areas of knowledge. With this objective, it is hoped that Mondragon University becomes the benchmark university in dual university education: in terms of the number of degrees and the knowledge areas in dual education and in the number of participating students.
