On May 7 and 8, 26 representatives from Escoles FEDAC in Catalonia visited Mondragon University’s Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences. The representatives from various Catalan schools are working toward the Specialist Diploma in New Roles for Learning in Education (ROL). The purpose of their trip was to receive training and become familiar in situ with various Basque schools that are leaders in educational innovation.

The information gathered in the schools will be used to improve the innovation projects that they are carrying out as part of their studies. The representatives from FEDAC schools are developing prototypes of educational innovation projects that they will later implement in their own schools.

FEDAC professor Mariona Gol states that “in this diploma program we have been trained in the use of many different tools that we can put into practice.” Asked about visits to Basque schools, Gol adds that “it’s been very rewarding to see things in person that we’ve worked on in theory.”

During their stay, and organized into groups, they visited the following schools: Amaraberri Eskola Publikoa, Larrun Lizeoa, Arizmendi Ikastola, Laskorain Ikastola, Herrikide Ikastetxea, Zumaiena Ikastetxea, Aranzadi Ikastola and Miguel Altuna Lanbide Heziketako Zentroa.

In addition to their school visits, the participants held a workshop on the Eskoriatza campus in which they presented their respective prototype projects and received feedback from experts in educational innovation from different schools.

The Specialist Diploma in New Roles for Learning in Education (ROL) is an in-person program that lasts one year. Throughout the program, there are various in-person workshops, and the rest of the content is offered online. The visit on May 7 and 8 was complementary to the program.

The diploma is aimed at schools whose objective is to train professional profiles to be able to facilitate and guide learning at school. This program is organized by Mondragon University in conjunction with the TeamLabs learning laboratory.
