Abstract:

The project is part of the research and development activities at Fraunhofer IGD in the area of security for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). The overall goal is to create a security framework that allows a user to be aware of her current situation and to be able to react if an attack is going on.

The different modules of the intrusion detection system (IDS) are integrated into the Open Source simulation framework ns-2 to be able to assess the developed algorithms and architecture in a real size network. The modules will also be adopted for the existing testbed in a second step.

The existing framework already contains a defined API to access the different available data sources of the simulation environment ns-2 as well as the testbed. These data sources include classical network and traffic data, trust models, topography information and peripheral sensor data (GPS).

The goal of the project is to extend an existing system for the aggregation and assessment of different types of sensor data with new modules to allow the detection of attacks in mobile ad-hoc-networks. The major focus is on the evaluation of local routing information and of information that related to the localization of mobile nodes such as GPS positions and radio signal characteristics. The system can work on data which is provided by the network simulation environment ns-2 as well as real data provided by a testbed environment.
