Título del proyecto: Security for mobile ad-hoc networks Desde: 2005 hasta: 2006 Áreas: Seguridad Tema: xxxxxx Investigadores participantes: Roberto Uribeetxeberria Entidades participantes: Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, MGEP Entidad financiadora: Beca Lonardo Publicaciones relacionadas: xxxxxx Abstract: Attacks in MANETs mainly focus on the second and third layer of the OSI protocol stack. The link layer establishes the connectivity (just one hop) between two direct neighbors through MAC protocols, like for example 802.11 [8]. But attacks in this layer are not specific to MANETs, in fact, they affect all wireless networks, and it is not the goal of this report to analyse them. On the other hand the mobile ad-hoc networks, due to the nodes mobility and the constantly changing topology are also receptive to attacks in the network layer. For this reason and others concerning the network traffic efficiency, routing protocols play a major role in this kind of networks. This project is part of a security framework that allows to a user to be aware of his current situation, and to be able to react if an attack is going on. Concretely, the goal is to create a system for the aggregation and assessment of different types of data sensor to allow the detection of attacks that are particular to these type of networks. The system is based on the network simulation environment ns2, and a suitable existing intrusion detection engine has to be identified and integrated into it, or in case of not finding an IDS that fits the MANETs requirements, a new system should be designed. Furthermore, it is important to mention that the system has to be flexible and scalable, as it should also work in a real environment, and it should be easy to add functionalities or replace the modules in it.
