Unai Mujika obtained a degree in Computing engineering at Universidad de Deusto.

From September 2007 to November 2008 he worked in the Department of Technological Security Risk Services (TSRS) from Ernst & Young's office in Bilbao. As a team member of the audit firm, he conducted informatic audits and computer risk-management director plans, the former in telecommunication companies. Since November 2008, he combines teaching and research work in the area of telematics.

His main research interests are focused in the area of computer security, auditing systems, focused from the ISO 27001.
