The Telematics Group has an extended experience in the Networking research area; in fact, the Group takes its name from this background. Mondragon University was the first institution deploying a local area network in the region and was done by this group. It has also been responsible for the management of the university's data network for several years and has advice a lot of local companies in the design and deployment of their LANs. The groups makes use of freeware (Nagios, Ntop, Captic,...) based on SNMP and MRTG independently of the platform-operating system. The group has taken part in the deployment of monitoring tools in LANs and WANs. Current research priorities in this area are:

Evaluation and Auditing Tools
The Telematics Groups is working on the development of metrics to measure the security level of an appliance or system. At the same time we are working on automatic continuous security auditing systems that will allow to capture data and apply this metrics. Therefore, we are investigating to integrate vulnerability analysis tools with network and system monitoring tool.

Industrial Networks
One of the characteristic of the region where the university is located is its indusrial nature. Thus, companies are worried about their industrial data netwoks and require services specific for this kind of network. Unfortunately, the requirements differ (determinism, real time,...). On he other hand, current trends take us to interconnect all kind of networks, including industrial network. Moreover, technologies are also converging and factories are deplying technologies like Ethernet in their workshops. The Telematics Group offers its expertise in network monitoring and management to this new application environments. Aspect such as performance, error rates or security are taken into account, but also others more specific to the environmets like the response time of a deterministic system.

ICT infrastucture management
The management of Information and Commuication Technologies is becoming more and more complex. It is therefore necessary to have adecuate methodologies and tools for the dayly work and to align the ICT with the real purpose of the business. One example of the complexity of the problem where we are investigating on is the internationalisatio process of a company and how this affects to the ICT infrastructure and its management.
