Signal Theory and Communications

This research line focuses on the design and implementation of communications systems and signal processing algorithms for new products and services in the following three fields:
Wireless Communications
The communications team of the Signal Theory and Communications area of the University of Mondragón develops industry-funded projects in the following field:
- Design, implementation and integration (in FPGA and DSP devices) of communication systems and signal processing algorithms:
- -Communications interfaces (zigbee, wifi, PLC, etc.)
- -Embedded systems for remote diagnosis and services for transport, energy and elevation companies.
- -Implementation and integration of TCP/IP stacks and communications protocols.
- Multiuser and multiantenna (MIMO) communication systems:
- -Design and implementation of high-performance and low-complexity vector precoders.
- -Design and simulation of precoding and relaying techniques, either linear or non-linear, for multi-hop multiuser MIMO scenarios
- -Rate adaptation schemes for MIMO-OFDM.
- Receiver algorithms for new digital video broadcasting (DVB) standards, such as DVB-T2 or DVB-NGH:
- -Iterative intercarrier interference (ICI) cancelation schemes for high-speed DVB receivers.
- -Pilot design and channel estimation techniques for single and multi-antenna reception in mobile DVB-T2/DVB-NGH.
- -Evaluation of multiantenna DVB transmission and design of low complexity receivers for space-frequency blocks in LDPC-coded BICM-OFDM.
Artificial Vision
The main objective of this research line is to focus on the scientific and technological basis of fast 2D/3D vision algorithms, rapid computing platforms and methodologies for rapid prototyping of vision-related algorithms. The following are the most remarkable and recent techniques employed: stereovision with structured light (laser) and fast laser cameras, as well as spezialised platforms such as FPGA or DSP based "smart cameras". The most usual application fields are industrial (quality control and material characterization) and human-machine iteration (safety or life assistance).
Digital Signal Processing for Embedded Systems
The objective of this research work is the development of new algorithm and digital signal processing techniques (DSP) for telecommunications ans specially for their inclusion in embedded systems targetting very specific reliabilty and safety requirements.
